We are proud to announce the winning of the prestigious “Maritime And Logistics Award (MALA) for excellence in IT-Software” at the recently concluded South-East CEO Conclave & Awards 2009, held at Chennai on 28th August, 2009.
Maritime And Logistics Award (MALA) - 2009
The South East CEO Conclave & Awards 2009 was organized to focus on the current developments and present and future trends in the maritime sector in the region. A highlight of the event was the first Maritime And Logistics Awards, which honored the best-performing organizations in the industry in no less than 18 categories, such as Major Ports, Container Operators, Container Terminal Operators, NVOCC, CHA, Corporate Social Responsibility and many more. Ours was the only technology company to be awarded with this recognition.
Commenting on the award, Mr. Amit Maheshwari, Managing Director and CEO, Softlink, said, “The award is in recognition of Softlink’s landmark achievements and its continuous endeavor to excel in simplifying operations of organizations in the logistics industry worldwide through highly specialized software products. This exemplary achievement comes as an exception amid talk of global meltdown and its impact on logistics sector. Softlink has achieved stellar growth by providing specialized solutions, augmenting client base and continuing to expand its product portfolio.”

The conclave was attended by some of the leading lights of the industry such as Mr Xavier Britto, Chairman of Indev Group; Mr P. C. Johny, Director (South East India), APL India; Mr Suresh Joseph, GM, DP World Cochin; Mr Shankar Chatterjee, MD, India & South Asia, Bertling Logistics India P. Ltd; Mr G. R. K. “The logistics sector lacks an effective policy framework for IT adoption. A huge financial burden on the logistics industry (which is close to 13 per cent of GDP) can be reduced by framing policies that promote IT automation to increase process efficiencies. Necessary incentives will give traction to the industry’s growth helping them to match international standards and improve profitability”.
- Amit Maheshwari, Founder & CEO, Softlink

The Government should support domestic software product companies in the same manner that it empowered their IT services counterparts. The Government should provide certain tax incentives to domestic software product companies for making them more competitive globally.

The direct and indirect tax benefits provided to software service companies should also be extended to product firms.

Indian software product companies cater largely to the domestic market and are also drivers of IP creation in the country; there needs to be some incentive for creating intellectual property.
